Library Meeting Room

Presented by Jerry Poling, UW Stout

More than a century after his death, James Huff Stout is best known today for the polytechnic university that he founded and that bears his name. As the Menomonie Public Library celebrates 150 years of service in Dunn County, take a look back at the man who also started the first traveling libraries in the state in Dunn County, initiated the earliest library at UW-Stout, served on the Library Committee for the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, and is a member of the Wisconsin Library Hall of Fame. He believed in hands-on learning and book learning. He was a man who dedicated his life to improving lives.
