Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, we now have a book trike. Book bikes are a fairly recent phenomenon in public libraries and are used as means of outreach to promote reading and literacy. Book bikes are fun and intriguing and we can ride ours to summer events around the city to expand the library’s visibility. Children especially are attracted to them as they evoke an ice cream vendor trike. Our first trike adventure was to the Wakanda Waterpark where our intrepid children’s librarians, Jodi Bird and Debbie Nelson provided books and stories during a swim break. We also plan to take it to the Menomonie Farmers Market and other special events. The book trike was custom made for us by Haley Tricycles in Philadelphia.
