  • Free copies of the book The Great Gatsby will be distributed.

Join us as we kick off our series of events for The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Big Read 2013 Menomonie is a partnership between the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts and the Menomonie Public Library and will feature community reads and events related to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. To kick off The Big Read, Dr. Joan Navarre, Assistant Professor of English and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, will deliver a lecture about The Great Gatsby and the life and work of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Free copies of The Great Gatsby will be distributed in the Public Room following the lecture. Join us afterward in the theater for a free 1920s era jazz concert by Belle Amour!

Sunday, April 14 – Live reading of the book
Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts
2 PM – 10 PM

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s American masterpiece will be delivered on the Mabel stage, word-for-word by professional actors and local performers. Includes two short intermissions and a dinner break. This is a free event. Please visit the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts Box Office to pick up your free tickets. Box Office hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM and one hour prior to performances.

Film Screening – The Great Gatsby 1974 version starring Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Bruce Dern, Sam Waterston, and Lois Chiles. Directed by Jack Clayton. Music by Nelson Riddle.
